These birth marks, which are usually a pink to red color, will not resolve with time. In fact, port-wine stains have a tendency to darken, become thicker, and more nodular over time. The goal of laser treatment of port-wine stains is to focus the thermal damage to the targeted blood vessels while preventing damage normal bordering dermis and epidermis. The pulse dye laser has a long standing reputation as the go-to treatment for port-wine stains due to its proven safety and efficacy in both children and adults. Modifications have been made to the pulse dye laser over the years to ensure it is yielding the best results that current technology will allow.
