Melanage Chemical Peels

Skin Care & Non-Surgical Treatments

Melanage Chemical Peels

Do you have uneven skin tone, deep pigment concerns or melasma? The Melanage Peel and Minipeel are superficial peels designed specifically to treat pigment, especially melasma. The system consists of two parts: a masque applied by our medical staff and an after care medical-grade regimen provided at your appointment. The Melanage and Minipeel, Skin Lightening System, will improve the texture and appearance of hyperpigmented skin and melasma. The Minipeel is a less intensive version of the Melanage Peel, yet still offers pigment reduction benefits.

How long does the treatment take?

The masque is the first part of the skin lightening treatment and will be freshly compounded and applied at our office by a medical aesthetician to ensure potency and reliability; the treatment time is approximately 30 minutes. You will leave wearing the masque and will be given a specific time by the aesthetician to wash the masque off. Based on your unique condition and skin type, the masque will be left on your skin for 2 – 10 hours. Leaving the masque on longer than the allotted time will be counterproductive to your treatment – it is important to adhere to the directions of our medical staff to ensure the best results.

Once you have returned home and removed the masque as directed, you have completed the first portion of the treatment. You will be supplied with a medical-grade home-care kit at your office visit. Patients are responsible for adhering to an easy to follow, but strict, at-home regimen involving the application of several Melanage products over the course of a month to complete the treatment.

What results can I expect?

Results will vary, but generally patients will see a significant improvement in the appearance of pigmented areas. Dark spots will lighten and skin texture and tone will improve. Although most patients experience peeling of their skin, not every patient will experience peeling. If you do not notice peeling, please know that you are still receiving all the benefits of the Melanage Peel, such as: stimulation of collagen production, improvement of skin tone and texture, and diminishment of fine lines and pigmentation. Proper skin evaluation prior to your treatment is important and will help predict the outcome of your peel.

How often do I need treatments?

Many patients will only require one Melanage Peel. If further results are desired, the patient can be treated with a second peel 6 months after receiving the first treatment. The Minipeel can be repeated in 1-2 months, as necessary. Most patients that seek Minipeel treatment typically complete 3-5 treatments over the course of a few years for maximum results.

How does the Melanage Peel work?

The Melanage Peel is considered a system due to the fact that it has an in-office procedure as well as a full regimen of after-care products. The Melanage Peel contains prescription strength ingredients that can penetrate the skin at a cellular level. The mask is applied in office and it will remain on the skin for a period of time determined by our office. These ingredients work collectively to pull the unwanted pigment to the outermost layers of the skin where it will exfoliate and reveal new, fresh skin.

Is the Melanage peel painful?

The Melanage peel is virtually painless, epidermal peeling without burning, wounding, or injuring the skin. Some patients will begin to experience a warming or tingling sensation once the masque has been applied. These sensations may become stronger before the masque is removed, as directed.

What are the common side effects of the Melanage Peel?

The most common side effects include redness and peeling of surface skin which has been shown to last 7-10 days for most patients. It is common and expected that your skin may be itchy and/or irritated. This is by no means a complete list of side effects. A complete list of potential side effects is available during your consultation.
