Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair reduction is a very popular procedure. It is an alternative to waxing, shaving or plucking unwanted hair. Common areas include side burns, lips, chin, face and neck. It can also be done to treat backs, bikini lines and any other areas.

How does Hair Removal work?
Modern laser hair reduction technology works by using specific wavelengths of light that are absorbed by the hair shafts. The hair follicles are then destroyed. The treatments only work on hairs that are actively growing. At any given time, some hairs are in the dormant part of their growth cycle. This means that multiple treatments are almost always required. Dark hair in light skinned patients is the easiest for the laser to target because most all of the laser light energy that is applied is absorbed by just the hair and not by the surrounding pigment in the skin. Light colored hair in darker pigmented skin is the most difficult to reduce for the same reason.

What can you expect during the procedure?
Once the skin is prepared, a handpiece will be used to scan the area being treated, emitting gentle pulses of light energy into the follicle. As the pulse occurs, you may experience a mild stinging sensation, but the discomfort will go away momentarily. Most treatments only take a few minutes and you can resume your daily activities immediately.
